2/26 Picante - 1328 Sixth street - 11:45 A.M. We called ahead to see if we needed reservations, which they did not accept, and were told it gets busy around noon so we hurried to the restaurant. Parking was easier then expected, there is a parking lot across the street. Stanley and I hurried inside to get a table. Once inside we got in line to order then took a seat. They offer a regular menu, and a brunch menu. We found a booth and waited for Clair, Jake, and our food. Clair and Jake arrived and ordered then met us at our table. Jake ordered a burrito, Clair had encilada with mole sauce, Stanley had carne ensada, I had huevos rancheros. Service is cafeteria style with a pager type waiter at your table. If you require service you press a button, otherwise they don't bother you. Jake always orders soda, so was not happy when it appeared in a can, because that meant no refills. I had coffee and pressed the pager button for a refill which came quickly. Clair rated the ambiance high, 4.5. She liked the music and decorations. Stanley and Jake rated the food 4.25, Clair and I rated the food 3.5.Eventhough it was cafeteria, push a button waiter service, we all agreed service got a 5, all the help was pleasant and efficient. This place if lovely and not a place you would want to miss. Four of us had a nice lunch under 50.00.
2/19 - Sauls Restaurant Berkeley - 1475 Shattuck at vine. 11: 30 A.M. Our visit to Sauls began with trouble parking then difficulty getting a seat. Service is a bit rude, and you are not allowed to be seated if your entire group isn't present but it really makes no sense because the booths were seating 2, and 2 of us were already there. Enough said, the booths were way too cramped for 4!! And if we had waited the restaurant wasn't worth the wait. Clair rated Sauls 3 for ambiance, Jake gave it a 3 for food, although the potatoe salad got a 2. Stanley thought the lemonade was very strange and gave it a 1. Ingrid rated the service as a 1. Although this restaurant has a cultural theme, we all gave it an overal score of 3.
Welcome!
Hello! Welcome to Berkeley Restaurant Reviews! We're four critics from the Bay Area who like to eat good food and share about our experiences. We are Stanley, Ingrid, Jake, and Claire. First, Stanley, a teenage boy whose mother, Ingrid, only allows him to choose an item under ten dollars, somehow manages to find something that will satisfy his stomach and his mother's wallet. Next, Ingrid, mid 50's and Stanley 's mother, is very picky and has a lot of experience in the restaurant business, so, she knows whether the service was good or not. After Ingrid is Jake, early 70's and Claire's husband, may be on the older side, but he still likes to eat on the wild side. Jake is the most daring out of us four when it comes to ordering off the menu. Our last critic, Claire, younger than Jake and older than Ingrid, is the one most concerned with the restaurant’s ambience. In this blog, you'll get input on various different restaurants from teenage kids to senior citizens. Feel free to browse this site and get reviews on restaurants you may be interested in.
